ShadowCode for Mac (Apple silicon)

A native arm64 Mac app for every M-series Mac. Local models run on llama.cpp with Metal, using the memory the GPU shares with the system, so a Mac with 32 GB can hold far larger models than its size suggests.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 12 or later.
  • Git (Xcode's Command Line Tools or Homebrew) for working in repositories.
  • For local models: memory to spare. macOS lets the GPU use roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the RAM.

On this version

  • Settings and history are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/ShadowCode.
  • Agent shell commands run in the macOS sandbox: your home folder and other drives are hidden, only the project is writable, and network access is off, on or limited to the hosts you allow.
  • API keys can be kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • Opened from Finder or the Dock, it finds Homebrew's Git and Node and your subscription command-line tools on your shell's PATH.
  • Local models run on the bundled llama.cpp with Metal; the model picker warns when a model needs more memory than is free right now.
  • The llama.cpp runtime includes CPU code tuned for M1, M2/M3 and M4 and picks the best one the processor supports.

Install

Install with one command

In Terminal, run the installer. It picks the image for your Mac, checks it against the release's SHA-256 checksums, installs ShadowCode in Applications and adds the shadowcode command in ~/.local/bin. Run it again to update; your settings are kept.

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ShadowfetchStudio/ShadowCode/main/scripts/install-macos.sh | bash

The app is distributed on GitHub and is not notarized by Apple. The installer command above fetches it with curl, which macOS does not mark as downloaded, so it opens normally. A .dmg downloaded in a browser is refused the first time: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway next to ShadowCode.

Or use the disk image

Download the .dmg below, open it and drag ShadowCode into Applications.
